Makarov
|
- "This semi-automatic Soviet handgun features a fixed barrel and an unusually high rate of fire."
- — In-game description
The Makarov is a RARE Soviet pistol in Apocalypse Rising 2.
Information
The Pistolet Makarova, PM, or Makarov Pistol, is a Soviet self-loading pistol which loads from single-stack magazines carrying eight 9x18mm rounds. It was developed in the 1950s by firearms designer Nikolay Fyodorovich Makarov as a replacement for the famous World War II-era Tokarev TT33. The Makarov entered service in 1951, replacing an enormous number of pistol designs across the Soviet military and police, resulting in one of the largest firearm standardizations in history. Makarovs were unusually well-manufactured for their production cost and were produced in several countries, resulting in many surviving to this day as relatively affordable historical relics.
Gameplay
The Makarov is not a particularly outstanding pistol, with its only remarkable traits being its high rate of fire and above average accuracy. Its rare 9mm Soviet cartridge doesn't spawn on any other weapon, meaning once you run out, it's very unlikely you'll find additional ammo in a timely fashion. While it is an upgrade over some common sidearms, it should be discarded once the ammunition runs out or a more powerful alternative (such as a machine pistol or submachine gun) is found.
Pros
- High fire rate.
- Average damage.
- Low recoil.
- Spawns with lots of ammo.
- Great accuracy.
Cons
- Small magazine size.
- Short range.
- Rare gun, bullets, and magazines.
Trivia
- The Makarov appears in Apocalypse Rising 1 as the starter pistol, where its stats were nearly identical.
- The Makarov has a special fully auto version called the "Avtomat" Makarov that is only obtainable in private servers.
- The Makarov is the first RARE Soviet secondary weapon.
- The Makarov is one of the few single-stack magazine pistols in the game, the others being the M1911, Desert Eagle, and the P38, with every other pistol firing from a double-stacked magazine.
- A real Makarov cannot accept a suppressor as it does not have a threaded barrel and the barrel is completely shrouded by the slide. Specialized Makarov variants with custom barrels and slides were made for the KGB which could accept suppressors, but these look completely different from the ones depicted in-game.
- The Makarov is a fixed-barrel handgun which makes them substantially more accurate than a handgun with a tilting or rotating barrel. It is the only handgun in the game besides the Desert Eagle which is both a fixed-barrel and self-loading handgun.
