Consumables are a crucial part of survival in Apocalypse Rising 2. There exists a wide array of consumable items, including foods, drinks, medical kits, and other status items. Most of these items spawn frequently, but rarer, more effective items spawn infrequently and can be harder to find.
Gameplay
Over time, the player will need energy and hydration to stay alive, as indicated by both bars decreasing gradually. The rate at which both bars decrease is increased when sprinting. If the energy and/or hydration bar(s) is at a critically low level, the color of the bar(s) will change from green to red. If the energy and/or hydration bar(s) is depleted, the player will begin to lose health in small increments, until the bars in red are satisfied enough to change back to green. If a player replenishes their energy and/or hydration bar to 100%, the bar(s) will remain at 100% for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds pass, the bar(s) will begin to deplete again.
Consumables which replenish the energy and 100 temporary health points for 90 seconds /or hydration bar(s) can also be used to heal the player. If a consumable is used which has more energy points than a player needs to have, the remaining energy/hydration points heal the player for 20 health points if their health bar is not at 100%. (Note: This only works if the energy bar gains more than enough, NOT HYDRATION.)
Some consumables can provide stamina for a short period of time. This effect is indicated by the hunger and/or thirst bar(s) changing from green to blue. Consumables that provide stamina have varying stamina durations. During the duration of the stamina effect, neither energy nor hydration bars decrease, even when sprinting.
Medkits are the primary method of restoring health in-game. There also exists health-boosting consumables, which provide the players with a temporary health boost. If a player's health were to drop below a significant level, the health boost acts as a shield, preventing the player from death. The health boost is indicated by a portion of the health bar turning yellow for the duration of the health boost. The health boost is similar to the energy and hydration bars, as they deplete over time and deplete at an increased rate when sprinting.

Trivia
- Bubblegum, Soda, Energy Drink, and Sports Drink are the only consumables that all have the same effect while having multiple variants.
- Ketchup and Mustard also have the same effect, but are different from the aforementioned consumables.
- Spoiled Milk is listed as "Milk" when not in your inventory.
- In Apocalypse Rising 1, steak could be made by finding and killing cows and then cooking the meat on a campfire. The old steak may be a reference to this mechanic.
- The gallon of milk can be found in the barrel cache random event.
- The name of the Canned Beans consumables changes depending on the username of the person who spawned in with those beans.
- Both types of bread baguettes (half, full) have a different icons when added to the hot bar, rather than the other consumables that just use the same icon for both the inventory and the hotbar.
- The Tankard drinking animation includes an uncorking gesture which doesn't make sense for an open cup.
- There was an "Ultra Canned Whole Chicken" which is not accessible in the public game, it was more like a Dev joke item.
